Back and Chest Spots After Training: 7 Habits That Help

Spots on your back, chest and shoulders are incredibly common – especially if you train regularly or have a physical job. Sweat, friction from kit and clogged pores all play a part. While everyone's skin is different, these simple habits can help keep things clearer.

Why spots appear on your back and chest

The skin on your back and chest has lots of oil glands. When you sweat, oil, sweat and dead skin cells can build up and block pores. Tight gym tops, backpacks, rucksack straps and hi-vis vests add friction and trap heat, which can make it worse.

7 habits that help

  1. Shower straight after training. Don't sit around in sweaty kit. The sooner you wash, the less time sweat and oil have to clog pores.
  2. Use a deep-cleansing body wash. A tea tree body wash helps clean skin thoroughly and keep spot-prone areas fresh.
  3. Don't forget your back. It's easy to miss. A long-handled brush or cloth helps you actually reach it.
  4. Rinse conditioner off your back. Conditioner running down your back can leave residue. Wash your body after your hair, not before.
  5. Wear breathable kit. Loose, moisture-wicking fabrics cause less friction than tight cotton that stays wet.
  6. Wash gym kit after every use. Including towels and anything that touches your skin.
  7. Hands off. Squeezing or picking spots can lead to marks and irritation.

Give it time

Changes in your routine usually take a few weeks to show. Stick with it and keep it simple – consistency beats using lots of different products.
